When my daughter is spending her summer time with her dad I use it as an opportunity to try new things and cook food without thinking about a 5-year-old’s taste (i.e. spicy, lol!). I read books, stay up late, and just generally do restorative things for myself that I used to do pre-mom life. I took a 4 hour nap Friday, for example. One of those naps where you wake up and feel like you’ve time-traveled.
This summer, one of my kid-free activities was to try out a meal kit in an attempt not to over-buy on groceries for one person and also to get some new recipes.

I chose Every Plate because you know I’m all about living big on a budget. The introductory offer brought the meal kit in at only $26 for 3 meals (2 servings each- so that’s really 6 meals for a single lady like yours truly). When one takeout order can cost you that much, 6 meals for $26 is a HUGE bargain, even if you only do the first week and cancel.
I chose bacon & jalapeño corn chowder, sausage & red pepper risotto, and cherry glazed meatballs with carrots & mashed potatoes.
So how did it all taste? Amazing! Here’s what I liked: The recipes are pretty flavorful, produce was fresh, the cost is undeniably low, and there was more than enough food. The cherry glazed meatballs were delicious and I would make them again in a heartbeat. The corn chowder was hearty and the heat from the jalapeño was perfect. The risotto was delish, but heavy on risotto. I would’ve liked more vegetables. The lemon did a lot of the heavy lifting on flavor. All that to say, I’m saving the recipe cards!
Things that could be improved: The recipes take a bit more time than I would like to spend on a weeknight. The cherry glazed meatballs used a lot of pans & dishes. The risotto is a time consuming dish. I wouldn’t have wanted to do any of these on a Monday night with a hungry kid waiting, BUT, over the long weekend it was fine and I ate so well, saving the leftovers for lunches the next day. I think you just kinda HAVE to take time into account if you decide to order this meal kit. It may not be for you.

I also think all meal kits come with a bit too much packaging, and my apartment does zero recycling which makes me feel super guilty. I will say this one came with less than Hello Fresh.

All in all, I’m glad I did it and rate it very positively. It’s worth a try at the low low price point!
